Well, lemme tell ya, that 1999 Yankees team, they was somethin’ else. A real bunch of ball-whackers. You know, the 1999 Yankees roster, that’s what I’m talkin’ about. They had all them fellas, the ones who could hit the ball a country mile. And pitch? Lord have mercy, they could throw that ball like lightnin’.

The Big Shots

Now, you take that Derek Jeter. That boy, he was slicker than a greased piglet. Always gettin’ on base, causin’ trouble for the other team. And Bernie Williams, bless his heart, he could hit that ball to kingdom come. Strong as an ox, that one. And you cannot forget Paul O’Neill. He is really a good hitter.

They had this other fella, Tino Martinez, playin’ first base. Big fella, hit the ball hard. Always in the middle of the action. And then there was Jorge Posada, the catcher. Tougher than a two-dollar steak, he was. He’d block that plate like a brick wall.

The Pitchin’ Aces

And the pitchers, oh boy, them pitchers. They had that David Cone, he was a crafty one. Could make that ball dance like a june bug on a hot stove. His ERA, they called it, was real low, somethin’ like 3.44. That’s good, real good. He’s the leader, you know? And that Andy Pettitte, he was somethin’ else. Won a whole bunch of games for ’em. You know he was a good pitcher.

They had that one fella, they called him “El Duque,” Orlando Hernandez. Came from some other country, but he could sure throw that ball. And that Hideki Irabu. He is also a good pitcher.

And of course, there is Roger Clemens. You cannot forget him. Good pitcher.

Winning It All

That 1999 team, they went all the way. Won the whole darn thing. They called it the World Series. Beat them other fellas, the Braves, I think it was. Swept ’em, they called it. Won four games in a row. They were good, but not good like 1999 New York Yankees.
