Alright, so I decided to mess around with “Journey’s Greatest Hits” and make my own little cover version. I’ve always loved their music, and “Don’t Stop Believin’” is practically an anthem, you know?

Getting Started
First things first, I needed the music.
- I grabbed my old keyboard. It’s a bit dusty, but it still works.
- I found some decent sheet music online. It wasn’t perfect, but it gave me a good starting point.
- I listened to the original track, like, a million times. Gotta get that feel right.
The Messy Middle
Then came the actual playing part. This was… interesting.
- I started by trying to play the main melody. My fingers were clumsy at first.
- I practiced the intro riff over and over. It’s iconic, so I had to nail it.
- I added some simple chords to fill it out. Nothing fancy, just basic stuff.
- My cat kept jumping on the keyboard. That didn’t help.
Making it My Own
I didn’t want to just copy the original, so I tried to add my own little twist.
- I changed the tempo a bit, making it slightly slower.
- I experimented with some different rhythms in the chorus.
- I threw in a little improvised solo. It was probably terrible, but it was fun.
The Final Product(sort of)
After a few hours of fumbling around, I had something that resembled a cover version.

-
I recorded a quick version on my phone, It’s definitely not perfect. My timing is off in places, and I messed up a few notes.
- I listened back it, I felt so good!
But hey, it was my take on a classic. And honestly, the whole process was a blast. It reminded me why I love music in the first place. It’s not about perfection, it’s about having fun and expressing yourself. Even if your cat tries to sabotage you.
