Okay, so today I messed around with this “sean crawford” thing. I’d heard the name before, some game designer dude, but I didn’t really know anything about him. So, I decided to dig in.

First Steps: Basic Search

I started, like anyone would, by just typing “sean crawford” into a search engine. Nothing fancy, just a straight-up search to see what came up.

I got the usual stuff—a Wikipedia page, some links to his games, maybe a few interviews. I skimmed through the Wikipedia entry, just to get a general sense of who he is and what he’s done. Seems like he’s been around for a while, making games since the Atari days. Cool, cool.

Diving Deeper: Finding His Games

Next, I wanted to actually see some of his work. I mean, anyone can have a Wikipedia page, right? I looked for a list of his games. I found a few that sounded interesting, especially some older ones that I had never heard of. Some of them were pretty hard to find!

Checking Out Videos and Interviews

After I had a list of games, I figured I’d try to find some videos of him talking about his work, or maybe some interviews. I searched for “sean crawford interview” and “sean crawford game design” and stuff like that. I found a few talks he gave at conferences, which were kind of interesting. He definitely has some, uh, strong opinions about game design.

Reading Some Articles

Then I wanted to know how others viewed the subject, so I searched for articles about him and his work. I found a good amount of articles and analysis content about him.

Trying to Play (or at Least See) the Games

The hardest part was actually trying to play some of these older games. Emulators, downloads, all that stuff. I didn’t get very far with that, to be honest. It’s tough to get some of this old software running! But I did manage to find some gameplay videos on video sharing sites, so I could at least see what the games were like.

My Overall Takeaway

Honestly, it was a bit of a rabbit hole. It’s always interesting to dig into the history of something you’re interested in. There are lots of games I’d never heard of. It was fun to spend a few hours poking around and learning something new.
