Okay, so today I decided to mess around with something completely new – comparing stats between the Charlotte Hornets and the New Orleans Pelicans. I’ve always been a casual NBA fan, but I’ve never really dug deep into the numbers. I figured this would be a fun little project, and who knows, maybe I’d learn something!

First, I needed to find some data. This part was pretty straightforward. I just opened my browser and searched for “Charlotte Hornets stats” and “New Orleans Pelicans stats.” Thankfully, there are tons of websites out there with all kinds of information. I mainly stuck with the official NBA site and a couple of other popular sports sites, just to make sure I was getting reliable numbers.
Then came the tricky bit – figuring out what to compare. I mean, there are so many stats! Points per game, rebounds, assists, turnovers… it’s a lot to take in. I decided to keep it simple for my first try. I focused on just a few key things:
- Points Per Game (PPG): Seemed like a good starting point – who scores more?
- Rebounds Per Game (RPG): How well do they control the boards?
- Assists Per Game (APG): Are they good at sharing the ball?
- Field Goal Percentage (FG%): Are they making shoot.
I opened up a simple spreadsheet on my computer. Nothing fancy, just something to keep track of the numbers. I created a few columns for each team and each stat, and then I started plugging in the data I found on those websites. It was a little tedious, going back and forth between the browser tabs and the spreadsheet, but it wasn’t too bad.
Once I had all the numbers in, I started to look for some basic comparisons. For example, I checked which team had the higher PPG, and by how much. I did the same for RPG, APG, and FG%. Just some simple subtractions to see the differences.
I realized very quickly that a simple look with not much information, it is hard to know every detail.

So, that’s basically it! My super simple, totally amateur comparison of the Hornets and Pelicans. It wasn’t groundbreaking research or anything, but it was a fun way to spend a little time and learn a bit more about these two teams. Next time, I might try to get a little more advanced, maybe look at individual player stats or compare them over a longer period of time. But for now, I’m happy with my little experiment!
