Alright, let me tell you about the time I flew out of the Blue Grass airport over in Lexington not too long ago. Had to visit my sister for a few days, and driving just wasn’t in the cards this time.

Getting There and Parking Up
So, I drove myself there. Getting to the airport itself is pretty straightforward, wasn’t much traffic which was a relief. Finding the parking, though… well, they have options. Short term, long term garage, the usual stuff. I ended up in the garage because the weather looked iffy. Honestly, the parking cost felt a bit steep for just a few days, but what can you do? Convenience, right? Dragged my bag out and headed inside.
Inside the Terminal – Check-in and Security Shuffle
Walking in, the first thing I noticed is that it’s not one of those massive, confusing airports. Felt pretty manageable, which I liked. Found my airline counter easily enough. Check-in was quick, the lady at the counter was pleasant, no fuss there. Got my boarding pass and dropped off my bag.
Then came the security line. You know how it is. Laptops out, shoes off, the whole dance. It wasn’t super crowded that morning, thankfully. Moved along at a decent pace. The TSA folks seemed okay, just doing their job. Nobody was overly cheerful, but nobody was grumpy either. Got my stuff back, put my shoes on, and gathered myself.
- Laptop out – check.
- Belt off – check.
- Shoes back on – check.
- Didn’t forget anything – double check!
Waiting Game at the Gate
Made my way to the gate area. It’s clean, plenty of windows looking out at the runway. Found a seat pretty easily. They actually have these wooden rocking chairs scattered around near the gates. Sat in one for a bit, kind of relaxing actually, watching the planes. It’s definitely got that Kentucky feel, you know? Saw lots of horse pictures and stuff around. Grabbed a coffee while waiting – airport prices, naturally, but I needed the caffeine.
Boarding started pretty much on time. They called groups, lined up, scanned the pass, walked down the jet bridge. Standard procedure. The flight crew seemed friendly enough.

Final Thoughts
Overall? Flying out of Blue Grass was pretty smooth sailing. It’s a smaller airport, so things just feel less hectic. Parking felt a bit pricey, but the convenience of getting in and out quickly, short security lines, and just a generally calm atmosphere made up for it. Definitely less stressful than navigating some of those giant hubs. For a regional airport, it does the job just fine. Wouldn’t mind flying out of there again.
