Alright folks, let’s talk about pushing ourselves a bit, even when we don’t feel like it. This one’s called “underachievers please try harder” because, well, sometimes we need a kick in the pants, right?

Are You an Underachiever? Please Try Harder for a Better Future Now

So, I was chilling, doing my usual routine, feeling a bit…blah. I caught myself just going through the motions. Wake up, do the bare minimum at work, scroll through social media, maybe watch some TV, sleep. Repeat. Sound familiar?

I realized I was stuck in a rut. Like, a seriously deep one. And it wasn’t a good feeling. I felt like I was wasting time, and honestly, wasting my potential. That’s when I decided to actually do something about it.

First thing I did? Wrote down my goals. Sounds cliché, I know, but it works. Big goals, small goals, everything in between. Just getting them out of my head and onto paper made a difference. I needed to visualize where I wanted to be.

Next, I broke down those big goals into tiny, manageable steps. Instead of saying “I’m gonna write a novel,” I said, “I’m gonna write 500 words today.” Way less intimidating, right? I started small, and that’s key.

Then came the hard part: Actually doing the work. I’m not gonna lie, it was tough at first. My brain kept telling me to just chill and watch Netflix. But I forced myself. I told myself, “Just 15 minutes. Just work for 15 minutes.” Most of the time, after 15 minutes, I’d keep going. The hardest part is always getting started.

Here’s what my week looked like:

  • Monday: Wrote 500 words of my novel. Felt like pulling teeth, but I did it.
  • Tuesday: Went for a walk in the park instead of scrolling on my phone. Cleared my head.
  • Wednesday: Worked on a side project for an hour after work. Actually enjoyed it!
  • Thursday: Met up with a friend for coffee and talked about our goals. Accountability is huge!
  • Friday: Finished another 500 words of my novel. Progress!
  • Saturday: Did some meal prepping for the week. Saved time and money.
  • Sunday: Relaxed! Gave myself permission to recharge.

The key takeaway? Consistency. It’s not about doing huge things every day, it’s about doing small things consistently. It’s about showing up, even when you don’t feel like it.

And honestly? After a week, I felt amazing. I felt more energized, more focused, and more like myself. I was actually making progress towards my goals, and that felt incredible.

Now, I’m not saying I’m some super-achiever now. I still have days where I just want to do nothing. But now I know that I can push myself a little harder, even when I don’t feel like it. And you can too. Just start small, be consistent, and give yourself some grace along the way.

So, underachievers, including myself, let’s try harder. We got this!
