Remembering a Place I Never Saw
Someone mentioned the Triple Rock Social Club the other day. Man, that took me back. It’s gone now, right? Yeah, heard it closed down a while ago. Shame.

I never actually went inside. Isn’t that funny? Lived kinda nearby for a bit, well, close enough back when driving an hour felt like nothing. Always heard about the shows there. Friends went. They’d talk about how loud it was, how cheap the drinks were, just a real dive bar vibe but with killer music.
There was this one time, must’ve been ages ago, this punk band I really liked was playing. Not super famous, you know, but good. Real energy. I had tickets. Me and my buddy, Dave, we were all set to go.
Then, like, two days before the show? My clunker of a car decided to just die. Not like, ‘oh needs a jump start’ die. More like ‘making horrible noises and refusing to move’ die. Didn’t have cash for a big repair right then. Dave lived the other way, couldn’t easily swing by. Public transport? Forget it, would’ve taken hours from where I was.
So, I missed it. Dave went with someone else. Said it was amazing, of course. Rubbed it in a little, haha. The band broke up like six months later. Never got another chance to see them.
It’s weird how stuff like that sticks with you. Not the biggest deal in the world, missing a show. But it’s like… one of those little things. You think ‘ah, next time’. But sometimes there isn’t a next time. The band breaks up. The venue closes. Your car dies. You move away.

It reminds me of this other thing, totally different. I used to work at this small company, doing basic IT stuff. Felt like we were onto something cool, small team, lots of energy, kinda like that band I guess. We were working on this project, really putting in the hours. Thought it was gonna be big for us.
- Late nights fueled by cheap coffee.
- Arguments about the best way to fix bugs.
- That feeling we were building something.
Then the owner just… pulled the plug. Said it wasn’t making money fast enough. Laid half of us off. Poof. Gone. Just like that. No ‘next time’.
So yeah, the Triple Rock closing? Just another reminder, I guess. Gotta grab onto things when you can. Go to the show. See your friends. Fix the damn car. You never know when it’ll be the last chance.
