Okay, so I decided to finally get out and play Kiskiack Golf Course the other day. Heard a few things about it, figured I’d see for myself.

Getting There and First Look
Drove over there, wasn’t too hard to find off the highway. Pulled into the parking lot, plenty of space which was nice. You kind of drive up this little hill to the clubhouse. It looked pretty decent from the outside. Walked towards the pro shop, just trying to get my bearings.
Checking In and Getting Ready
Went inside the pro shop. Pretty standard stuff. The folks behind the counter were alright, got me checked in without much fuss. Paid my greens fee, grabbed a golf cart. Didn’t really have time for a proper warm-up, just took a few practice swings near the first tee while I waited for the group ahead to clear out. Felt a bit rushed, but that’s sometimes how it goes, you know?
Out on the Course
Finally got started. The first hole, okay, hit a decent drive. The course itself, well, it’s got some character. Lots of trees lining the fairways, you definitely don’t want to spray the ball around too much. Learned that the hard way on hole number 3, I think it was. Hooked one straight into the woods. Spent a few minutes looking, no luck. Dropped another ball and moved on.
Some holes have some serious hills. Walking up a couple of them really got the legs burning, even with the cart for the bags. Definitely not a flat course. Makes for some interesting shots, hitting up or down to the green.
- Found the fairways were in okay shape.
- The greens rolled pretty true, maybe a little quick.
- Saw a few water hazards, managed to avoid most of them, thankfully.
I remember one par 3 over water, maybe on the back nine? Always gets the nerves going a bit. Managed to hit the green, felt pretty good about that one. Had a few good shots, plenty of bad ones too. That’s just golf, right? Just tried to enjoy being outside.

Wrapping Up the Round
Finished up on 18. Felt pretty tired by the end, those hills and the Virginia humidity can take it out of you. Drove the cart back up to the return area near the clubhouse. Dropped it off, grabbed my clubs. Didn’t stick around for food or anything, just wanted to head home. Gave a quick wave to the cart guys.
Final Thoughts
So, Kiskiack. Yeah, it was a decent day out. The course itself is challenging enough, especially with the trees and elevation changes. It wasn’t perfect, had a few rough spots here and there, but overall, it was playable. Would I go back? Probably. It’s a solid option if you’re in the Williamsburg area and looking for a round. Just be ready for those hills and bring a few extra balls just in case.
