So I’ve been betting on sports for a while now, mostly football and basketball. At first I just scribbled my bets on napkins or random notes apps. Total mess. Couldn’t tell if I was winning or losing long-term, you know? That’s when I figured I needed a real system.

The Paper Notebook Disaster
Started carrying this tiny notebook everywhere. Scribbled down teams, odds, stakes – looked like chicken scratch after couple beers. Then Saturday came and I’d forgot whether I put £10 on Liverpool or £20. Pulled my hair out trying to add up wins/losses every Sunday night. Calculator, crumpled papers everywhere – looked like a mad scientist’s desk.
Spreadsheet Hell
Figured Excel would save me. Made columns for date, sport, teams, odds… wasted hours setting up formulas. Then I’d be at the pub and forget to log bets till next day. Half the time I’d miss games or type odds wrong. Got so messy I just stopped updating it after three weeks. Plus Google Sheets don’t work offline when you’re in some dodgy bar basement.
Finding Betslip
Was ranting to my mate Dave about this at the pub last month. He whips out his phone like “mate you’re living in the stone age” and shows me Betslip. Said you just screenshot your betting slip, it reads everything automatic. Sounded like magic to me.
How I Tested It
Next day I installed the app:
- Took pic of my tennis parlay bet receipt
- App popped up all the matches with exact odds
- Made me choose “pending/lost/won” when games finished
- Saw a cash balance changing real-time after each result
Why It Stuck
Three weeks in and I’m hooked because:

- No more scribbling odds while drunk
- Automatically totals my monthly profit/loss
- Shows which sports I suck at (goodbye golf bets)
- Works offline in stadium toilets
Still lost £40 last weekend but at least now I know it’s because I keep betting on Arsenal. Stupid emotional bets. But seeing that red number in Betslip finally made it click – maybe I should quit while I’m only slightly behind.
