Man, this hurricane video thing hit different after what went down last week. Buckle up, cause this is one dumb idea I actually followed through on.
The “Brilliant” Plan
Heard MegaStorm Chad was barreling towards the coast. Everyone was panicking, boarding up windows, evacuating. My brain? Nah. Saw all those wild tornado videos online and thought, “I gotta get me one of those viral moments.” Grabbed my trusty phone, dug out an old waterproof case that probably leaked, slapped on a power bank, shoved it all in a backpack. Seriously underestimated Chad’s power right there.
Getting Out There (Yeah, I Know)
Went down to the waterfront. Figured best view, right? Big mistake. Rain wasn’t just rain, it was like buckets getting dumped sideways. Wind hit me full force the second I opened my car door – nearly took it clean off! Felt like getting smacked by a wall of wet bricks. Stumbled towards the pier, phone already filming. Held it up, trying to keep steady. Nearly got blown over just walking twenty feet.
- The Roar: That wind wasn’t whistling, it was screaming. A proper, deep, bitch-wail loud enough to vibrate your teeth.
- The Flying Crap: Saw a trash can lid take flight like a frisbee, almost decapitating a stop sign. Branches were snapping left and right.
- Blurry Mess: My footage? Forget 4K quality. Mostly blurry gray chaos, shaky as heck, water droplets plastered all over the case. Highlight was probably me yelling “WHOAAAA!” sounding like a chipmunk on helium over the wind noise.
The Oh-Crap Moment
Tried getting closer to the water’s edge for that “epic wave shot.” Leaned into the wind like an idiot. Lost my footing. Slammed onto my knees on the concrete. Scraped up my hands, dropped the phone onto some gravel. Got back up covered in grit and looking like a drowned sewer rat. Phone miraculously still rolling? Yep. But my hand was bleeding, knees throbbing. Reality check: Chad was not impressed with my content creation skills.
The Walk of Shame and Realization
Shoved the phone back in the bag, limped back to the car feeling stupid. Got inside, soaked and shivering. Only then did I see the news alerts flooding in – trees crushing houses just two blocks away, power lines down everywhere. Sat there dripping, realizing people were losing homes while I chased internet points filming sideways rain. Felt like the biggest jerk alive. Got lucky scraping my hand? Could’ve been a flying roof tile instead.
Checked the “epic” footage later. Couple short clips of blurry chaos, mostly the ground during my fall, and my shaky hand fumbling. Not exactly 5M-view material. More like a cautionary tale. Thought filming a hurricane made me adventurous? Nah. Just made me realize how fast a dumb thrill turns into danger you didn’t see coming. Won’t be doing that again. Leave the storm chasing to the experts… or the other idiots.
