So today, I got this wild idea in my head about testing if one guy alone—just me—can actually speed stuff up without any fancy help. You know, like trying to race against myself or something. Started out simple, with my old laptop and a timer app I always use.

Setting Up the Mess
First off, I dragged my laptop out of the corner and plopped it on the kitchen table. My coffee was already cold, but whatever. Turned on the machine and watched it boot up real slow—felt like forever. Fired up a basic text editor and decided to write a stupid email super quick. Began by typing normally, just to see how long it takes. Man, it was boring. Clocked it at about two minutes for a short message. Realized that ain’t fast enough.
Playing with Tricks
Then I tried those speed tricks I heard about online. You know, keyboard shortcuts like copy-paste stuff and auto-correction tools. Installed a free typing app that promised to make me faster. Told myself, “Okay, let’s do this.” Started testing:
- Pressed Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V like a maniac to repeat words.
- Used auto-complete to fill in sentences without typing the whole thing.
- Even yelled at Siri to dictate my text—big mistake, since it messed up half the words.
Felt super awkward at first. Like my fingers were all tangled up, and I kept hitting the wrong keys. Ended up spilling coffee on the keyboard, which just made things worse. Still, I pushed through because I wanted to see if this could actually work.
What Actually Happened
After all that fumbling around, I ran a few more tests. Timed myself writing the same email five times. First try with no tricks took two minutes again. Second try with shortcuts cut it to one minute thirty—barely any change. But when I used the auto-complete feature properly? Dropped to under a minute! That felt kinda cool. Then I tried the voice thing again, and it was still garbage—three minutes wasted. So overall, some tricks helped a bit, some were total flops.
Why’d I even bother? Well, a couple weeks back, my boss piled on extra work outta nowhere. Said I had to finish reports faster or get stuck with overtime. I hated that idea—been pulling late nights enough already. Remembered how stressed I was and thought, “Screw it, maybe I can hack my way out with speed tricks.” That fear pushed me to tinker today. Turns out, simple shortcuts do save a few seconds, but they ain’t no magic bullet. If only life was that easy. At least now I know to skip the voice crap next time. Ended the test feeling tired but smarter, which I guess is a win in itself.
