Why I Messed With My PS4 Map Today
Okay, so my buddy kept bragging about his perfect map spot in 7 Days to Die on PS4 – flat land, water nearby, just perfect for a big base. Mine? Always cliffs or water in the way. Total pain. I figured there had to be a way to pick a decent map, not just roll the dice every time. Found some old forum whispers about controlling the world seed on PS4, but most stuff was for PC. Decided to dig in myself.

Digging Into the PS4 Menus
Started up the game like always. Got past the loading screen, picked “Continue” on my save. Once I was standing in my janky little base, I stopped everything. Time to experiment. Hit the “Options” button on my controller, scrolled down. Saw “Game Options”. Went in there. Scrolled past difficulty, zombie speed… all the usual stuff. Way down near the bottom, almost hidden, I spotted it: “Game World”. That was it! Highlighted it, hit X.
Under “Game World”, it showed the current world name. But next to that… boom! “Game Seed”. Jackpot. It was set to some long string of numbers and letters. Looked random.
Taking Control of the Seed
This is where it gets kinda manual, but simple. I moved the cursor over that long “Game Seed” string. Hit X to start editing it. Used the controller:
- Deleted the gibberish number that was already there.
- Typed in a new one I really wanted to try. Just a simple number like “123456”. Easy to remember.
- Hit X again to confirm it saved.
Okay, cool. Seed was set. But then… nothing really changed immediately in my game. That felt weird.
The Crucial Step I Almost Missed
Right after setting the seed, I almost just backed out. Big mistake! Almost walked away. I learned you absolutely must regenerate the world. Went back up one level in the menu. Found the “Reset Game World” option. Took a deep breath – knew this would wipe my map, but keep my character stuff. Hit X on it. A scary warning popped up asking if I was sure. I hit “Yes”.

The game went black. That loading screen came back up. Fingers crossed!
Testing the New World
Loaded back in. My character was still there, with my backpack and stuff. But the world? Totally different! Now the real test: Did the seed work? Needed to check the map quality.
- Popped open the big map view.
- Started running around. Paused near water.
- Scouted for flat areas.
Compared to my last dozen random worlds? This flat spot near the water was WAY better. No giant cliffs splitting things. Room to build. Exactly what I wanted! It actually worked. Set the seed, reset the world, bam – controlled map. Tried a different seed number after that, “777777”, reset again – got a different layout. So, yeah, it sticks.
Seriously, for a PS4 player? This is a quiet little power move hiding in the options menu. No extra tools, no hacks, just typing in a number and hitting “reset”. Game changer for finding a nice building spot. Finally not stuck with bad map luck!
