Hey folks, remember how I kept complaining every time I missed a Celtics game? Couldn’t always sit through the whole thing, and scrambling later to find the score piece by piece drove me nuts. Thought there’s gotta be a smoother way to follow that 23-24 season record live. Tried a bunch of stuff out this week – sharing what finally clicked for me.

Started Simple (And Failed)
First thing I did? Headed straight to the NBA site. Logged in, found the Celtics page, easy enough. Bookmarked it even. Seemed solid, right? Wrong. Big problem: Unless I was hitting refresh every damn minute – which nobody has time for – I wouldn’t know jack about scores changing in real-time. Like that critical Jayson Tatum dunk? Yeah, found out an hour later. Useless for live tracking. Felt like throwing my mouse.
Got Pushed Into Apps (Mixed Bag)
Alright, fine. Phone it is. Grabbed that official Celtics app. Looked slick, sure. Fixtures? Check. Player stats? Got ‘em. But the live updates? Still weirdly delayed, or I’d get bombarded by news alerts I didn’t care about instead of the final quarter score. Plus, battery hog. Not ideal.
Downloaded two other popular general sports apps too:
- App One: Annoying ads popped up right during clutch moments. Rage quit.
- App Two: Actually had decent real-time scoring… but buried under too many menus. Too slow to get to what matters.
Just wanted a simple light blinking when points went up! Was that too much?
The “Duh” Moment: Alerts!
Then it hit me. I was chasing shiny apps and websites when maybe something basic would work way better. Thought back to how I get weather warnings or package deliveries – instant pop-up notifications on my phone. Why not for basketball?

Setting Up The Siren Call for Scores
Got serious. Found the settings section inside one of those general sports apps that wasn’t awful (remember App Two?). Dug deep:
- Navigated to My Teams > Boston Celtics
- Clicked hard on Notification Preferences
Got faced with a wall of options. Switched nearly all the gossip and trade alert crap OFF. Zeroed in ONLY on:
- Game Start Alerts
- End of Quarter Scores (Perfect!)
- Final Game Score
Saved it. Deep breath.
Watching Magic Happen
Next Celtics game rolled around. Sitting there watching Netflix, phone buzzing. Glanced down:
Notification Blink: “Celtics Game Started vs Lakers!”

45 mins later, another buzz:
Notification Blink: “END Q1: Celtics 28, Lakers 24.”
Exactly like I wanted! Just sat back, barely touched my phone. Got the Q2, Q3, Final scores pinged straight to my lock screen. Didn’t miss a beat on the scoring progress. FINALLY.
Living With It Now
Been rocking this setup for the last couple of games. Effortless. Phone lights up precisely when something key happens score-wise. Lets me follow the season record developing live without glued to a screen. Huge weight off. Feels obvious now.
Maybe you’re smarter than me and set this up ages ago! But if you’re like I was, frustrated and manually checking, dive into those team notification settings – prune everything else away. Might not be flashy tech, but it darn well delivers real-time score updates in your pocket, the easiest way I found so far.
