So my GPZ1100S felt kinda lazy after five years of weekend rides, right? Thought I’d squeeze more juice outta that old beast. Total newb at mods, but YouTube made it look easy. Grabbed tools from my rusty toolbox and started tinkering.
Step 1: Suckin’ More Air
First thing – swapped that sad stock airbox. Unbolted the side panels, cursed at the sticky rubber boots holding the old box. Wrestled ’em off like fighting an octopus. Slapped on pod filters instead – no fancy brands, just cheap universal ones off the shelf. Got grease everywhere rejetting the carbs afterward. Messy? Hell yeah. Dropped a screw into the engine bay twice, spent 20 mins fishing it out with magnet.
Step 2: Dumping Exhaust Crap
Stock exhaust weighed a ton. Cut the pipes myself with a grinder – sparks flew everywhere, burned a hole in my garage jeans. Welded on a straight-through muffler. Sounded like a chainsaw on steroids. Neighbors hated me for three days straight. Worth it? Totally.
Step 3: Squeezing Sparks
Stock ignition coils looked prehistoric. Ordered uprated ones online – didn’t even check specs, just bought whatever fit. Yanked the old wires out, plugged new coils in crooked first try. Bike coughed and died. Fiddled with connections like a monkey until it finally roared alive.

Final Test Ride
Took it to the backroads at dawn. Cranked the throttle – front wheel actually lifted! Felt like a rocket made of duct tape. Vibrations nearly rattled my teeth loose, but that beast hauled ass. Burnt smell from the engine? Maybe. Grinning like an idiot? Absolutely.
Modding’s about doing dumb stuff that works. Would I fry my bike again? Already planning next upgrades.
