Okay so I really wanted to catch that Oklahoma vs Arizona basketball game last night but my stupid cable subscription doesn’t include the channel it’s on. Typical right? Had to figure out how to stream it live without spending a fortune.

Started By Checking Game Details
First thing I did was pull up Twitter to confirm the tip-off time – 8pm Eastern. Then Googled which network had broadcasting rights. Saw it was on ESPN something but definitely not regular ESPN. Annoying how these games get scattered across obscure channels.
The Real Hunt Began
Opened three browser tabs like an animal:
- Tab 1: Logged into my YouTube TV account praying they carried the right ESPN feed. Nope.
- Tab 2: Scrolled through Hulu Live channels. Couldn’t find it there either.
- Tab 3: Went straight to the ESPN app itself. Bingo! Little lock icon though meaning I needed TV provider login. Ugh.
Remembered my buddy uses Sling TV Blue package which includes ESPNews. Texted him like “BRO URGENT – CAN I BORROW YOUR SLING LOGIN??” while frantically checking clock. 7:49pm. Cutting it close.
Execution Phase
Buddy came through with login around 7:52. Panic downloaded Sling app on Firestick:
- Unplugged Firestick (always do this for fresh start)
- Re-plugged, searched “Sling” in app store
- Hit download while muttering “c’mon c’mon”
- Logged in shaky-handed with buddy’s credentials
Critical moment: Found ESPNews channel at 7:58. Two minutes to spare! Game loaded perfectly right as tip-off happened. Threw hands up like my team scored. Victory!

Bonus Crisis Management
Halftime bathroom break disaster – came back to frozen screen. Didn’t panic:
- Checked Wi-Fi – full bars
- Force quit Sling app
- Reloaded stream
- Missed exactly 1.5 minutes of gameplay. Acceptable loss.
Ended up watching entire game with zero buffering after that. Even the overtime! Honestly felt more satisfying having hacked my way to watch it than if it’d been easy. Would do the same song and dance again tomorrow for Sooners basketball.
