Yesterday, my buddy texted me, all excited about a boxing match. He was going on and on about “round betting” and how he’d made some cash on it before. Honestly, I had no clue what he was talking about. I mean, I’ve watched boxing, but betting beyond who wins? That was new to me.

So, first things first, I hit up the internet. Typed in “what is boxing round betting” and started digging.
Figuring Out the Basics
It turns out, it’s pretty straightforward. Instead of just betting on who wins the whole fight, you’re betting on which round the fight will end.
- Over/Under: The bookie sets a line, like “Over 7.5 rounds” or “Under 7.5 rounds”. You bet on whether the fight will last longer (Over) or shorter (Under) than that number of rounds.
- Specific Round: You can also bet on the exact round you think the fight will end. Like, “Fighter A wins in Round 3”.
My First Attempt
I watched a boxing match that I thought was very exciting.
So after looking at all my notes, I placed a small bet. I went with “Over 8.5 rounds” because both fighters have good defense.
I ended up getting it completely * was a knockout in round 5.

It was a bummer to lose, but hey, that’s gambling. At least now I understand what boxing round betting is, I’ll do better next time, I hope.
