Okay, so I’ve been messing around with bikes lately, and I got this idea to try and build a monoshock bicycle. I’ve seen some cool designs online, and I figured, “Why not give it a shot?”

Getting Started

First, I drew up some rough sketches. Nothing fancy, just trying to get a basic idea of the frame geometry and how the suspension would work. I wanted something that looked kinda sleek, but also functional. I watched some videos on YouTube to find some inspiration for designs.

Building the Frame

Next up, I grabbed some steel tubing. I don’t have a fancy workshop or anything, so I just used what I had lying around. I started cutting and welding the pieces together, following my sketches as best as I could. It was a bit of a trial-and-error process, to be honest. I’m not the best welder, so some of the joints were, uh, rustic. Let’s just say there was a lot of grinding involved to make things look somewhat presentable.

The Monoshock Part

This was the trickiest bit. I found an old motorcycle shock at a junkyard. It was pretty beat up, but I figured I could clean it up and make it work. I spent a couple of hours scrubbing off rust and grime. I fabricated some mounts to attach the shock to the frame and the swingarm. This involved more cutting, welding, and grinding. I had to make sure everything was lined up properly, or the whole thing would be crooked.

Putting It All Together

Once the frame and swingarm were done, I started assembling the rest of the bike. I used some old parts I had from other bikes – wheels, handlebars, brakes, etc. I bolted everything together, making adjustments as needed. It was like putting together a giant, metal puzzle.

Testing It Out

Finally, it was time for the moment of truth. I took the bike out for a test ride. It was a bit wobbly at first, but once I got used to it, it actually rode pretty well! The monoshock suspension worked surprisingly well, soaking up the bumps and making for a smoother ride. I felt a bit like a mad scientist, riding around on my Frankenstein creation, a feeling of I made it!

Final Touches

I’m still making some tweaks and adjustments. It’s not perfect, but it’s definitely a fun project. I might add some paint later on, but for now, I’m just enjoying riding it around. It is pretty rewarding after all the hard work.

So yeah, that’s my monoshock bicycle build. It was a challenging but rewarding project. And hey, if I can do it, anyone can! If you like this kind of content, let me know!
