Okay, so I’ve been totally hooked on watching the Masters, and this year’s playoff was just insane! I had to try and recreate some of that magic myself, even if it’s just on a much, much smaller scale.

First, I grabbed my clubs – dusted them off a bit, I confess – and headed out to the local course. It wasn’t Augusta National, obviously, more like “Slightly Soggy Municipal,” but hey, you gotta work with what you’ve got, right?
Setting the Stage
I decided to focus on the last three holes, pretending they were the 16th, 17th, and 18th at the Masters. I even printed out a little makeshift scorecard with “Masters Playoff” scribbled at the top. Yeah, I know, a bit much, but it got me in the zone!
- Hole 1 (aka “The Pretend 16th”): Par 3, over a little pond. I usually slice it into the water, so this was already feeling authentic.
- Hole 2 (aka “The Faux 17th”): Long par 4, with a tricky dogleg. My nemesis.
- Hole 3 (aka “The Wannabe 18th”): Another par 4, but with a big tree guarding the green.
The “Playoff” Begins
I teed off on the first hole, and miraculously, my ball actually stayed dry! It landed on the green, but miles from the pin. Three-putt bogey. Classic me.
The second hole… well, let’s just say the dogleg won. I ended up in the rough, chipped out sideways, and scrambled for a double bogey. My “Masters” dreams were fading fast.
Then came the final hole. I took a deep breath, channelled my inner champion (whoever that might be), and… smacked a decent drive! It wasn’t perfect, but it was in play. My approach shot cleared the tree, landed on the green, and I actually sank the putt for par!

The Aftermath
Okay, so I didn’t win any green jacket. My “playoff” score was probably embarrassing compared to the pros. But honestly, it was a blast! It gave me a tiny, tiny taste of the pressure and excitement those guys face. And hey, at least I got some fresh air and exercise, right? Maybe next year, I’ll actually practice beforehand…
