Okay, so yesterday I decided to finally check out that mangrove golf course everyone’s been talking about. I’d heard it was, you know, different, but I wasn’t really prepared for how wild it actually was.

First off, I grabbed my clubs and headed out. The drive there was pretty normal, nothing too crazy. But as soon as I got close, things started to change. The roads got narrower, and the trees got… well, they got mangrove-y. You could tell you were entering a different world.

Getting Started (and Lost)

I parked the car, paid the surprisingly reasonable fee, and got my little scorecard. The guy at the counter gave me a look, kind of like, “Good luck, buddy.” I should’ve taken that as a sign.

I stepped onto the first tee, and that’s when I realized: this isn’t your typical golf course. The “fairway” was more like a… swampy path. There were mangrove roots everywhere, sticking up out of the water, and little crabs scuttling around. It was insane!

  • Trying to find my ball after the first swing was an adventure in itself. I waded through ankle-deep water, poking around with my club, hoping I didn’t step on anything sharp (or alive).
  • The “greens” weren’t exactly green. They were more like patches of slightly-less-muddy ground, surrounded by, you guessed it, more mangroves. Putting was… an interesting challenge.
  • I definitely lost a few balls. I mean, who wouldn’t? They just disappeared into the murky depths. I swear I saw a fish jump out and grab one. Maybe I was hallucinating from the heat.

I kept going, though. I mean, I’d already paid, right? And it was kind of… fun, in a weird, frustrating way. I slogged through the water, swatted at mosquitoes, and tried to keep my balance on the uneven ground. I even managed to get a couple of decent shots in, which felt like a major victory.

By the time I finished the ninth hole (I decided to skip the back nine, I’m not that crazy), I was soaked, muddy, and exhausted. But you know what? I kind of loved it. It was the most ridiculous, challenging, and memorable round of golf I’ve ever played.

Would I recommend it? Maybe. If you’re looking for a perfectly manicured course with pristine fairways, this is NOT the place for you. But if you’re up for a challenge, and you don’t mind getting a little (or a lot) dirty, then give it a shot. Just bring plenty of bug spray, and maybe a snorkel.
