Okay, so I wanted to make a cool beer poster, you know, something vintage-looking for my home bar. I’ve seen some awesome ones online, and I figured, “Why not try making my own?”

First, I brainstormed some ideas. Did I want a specific beer brand? A general “cheers” vibe? Maybe something with hops and barley? I sketched out a few rough layouts in my notebook – nothing fancy, just some basic shapes and text placement.
Next, I needed some images. I didn’t want to just, grab random images online(you know copywrite stuff), so I decided to take some photos myself. I grabbed a few of my favorite craft beers, some nice glasses, and even some raw ingredients like hops and barley (I got those from a local homebrew supply store). I set up a little “photo studio” on my kitchen table with some natural light and a plain backdrop.
Image Editing is EVERYTHING
After taking a bunch of photos, I picked the best ones and imported them into a photo editing program. I’m no professional designer, but I know the basics. I played around with the brightness, contrast, and saturation to get that warm, slightly aged look. I also added some grain and a subtle vignette to enhance the vintage feel.
Then came the text. I spent a good hour just trying out different fonts. Seriously, there are SO many options! I finally settled on a bold, slightly distressed font for the main heading and a more classic serif font for the smaller text. I experimented with different colors, sizes, and placements until it looked just right.
Layout is key!
- I arranged the images and text in a way that felt balanced and visually appealing.
- I made sure there was enough “white space” (or in this case, “empty space”) so it didn’t look too cluttered.
- It’s kinda like arranging furniture in a room, you gotta find the right flow.
Finally, I saved the finished poster in a high-resolution format.I mean that’s what is gonna get the print right! I’m thinking of getting it printed on some nice, thick paper to really give it that authentic poster feel. I might even frame it!.

It was a fun little project, and it definitely took some time and effort, but I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. It’s not perfect, but it’s mine, and that’s what makes it special. Plus, now I have a cool, custom-made beer poster to show off in my home bar. Cheers to that!
