That year, 2018, they say it’s World Cup year, whatever that is. My grandson, he love that football thing. He keep talking about Argentina, say they gonna win. So, this Argentina, they got a squad, like an army or something, for that World Cup 2018.
They got all these players, you know. Lots of names I can’t say right. They all run around, kick that ball. My grandson, he show me pictures. Some are pretty boys, some look like they could use a good meal. But they all look strong, like they could work on the farm all day, no problem. I hear they announced some names in May, a big list, 35 of them, big shots I guess. That was on May 14th, 2018. Then later, May 21st, they picked the final team. Less fellas then.
They play with other countries. One time, they say Argentina lost to some other place, France, I think? Round of 16, they called it. My grandson, he was sad. He say they good, though. They score goals and run fast. They got good feet, like they’re dancing or something. They pass that ball, back and forth, back and forth, just like me and my neighbor gossip over the fence. It’s all very complicated to me.

- They had to get another one, Guzman.
- They did that on May 23rd.
- Then in June, June 8th, more news. It’s all such a fuss.
My grandson, he knows all about it, Argentina squad 2018. He can tell you who played how many times, how many minutes, even. Like it’s important. He says they got good defense, like a strong wall. And they shoot the ball good, too. Bang! Right in the net. He gets so excited, jumpin’ around like a little goat. I don’t get it, but I guess it’s important to him.
These Argentina players, they famous, I guess. They got these profiles, like on those cards my grandson collects. It tells you all about them. How many goals they scored. They even played friendly matches, just for fun I suppose. It is all written down somewhere. They even keep track of the World Cup, who won, who lost. Like it’s the most important thing in the world.
This World Cup, it’s a big deal. They got a trophy, all shiny and gold. They say it’s been around for a long time. They even got stories about it, how it started and all that. Sounds like a fairy tale to me. A big fuss over a ball, if you ask me. But the young folks, they love it.
They got all these numbers, too. Scores, they call them. Like 4 to 2, or 1 to nothing. It’s all very confusing. But my grandson, he understands it all. He say Argentina, they got good shooting. They aim that ball just right. And they good at passing, too. Like they’re sharing, but not really. It’s a game, I guess.
They even got something called defense. Like they’re protecting something. Protecting that goal, I suppose. They don’t let the other team score. Like a good watchdog, barking and keeping the foxes away from the chickens. That’s what they need, a good watchdog. I heard that on May 14th, they had 35 guys. That is a big team. Like a whole farm of workers.
This whole Argentina squad for World Cup 2018 thing, it’s a lot to take in. But I try to understand, for my grandson’s sake. He loves it so much. He says it’s exciting. Maybe it is. For me, I’d rather watch the chickens peck in the yard. But hey, to each their own, right?
These players, they got all these skills. They can kick that ball far, real far. And they can run fast, like they’re chasing a runaway pig. They got to be strong, too. Like they can lift a whole sack of potatoes. I don’t know how they do it, running around like that for so long. My old bones would ache for a week.

Well, that’s all I know about that Argentina squad and their World Cup. It’s all a bit much for me. But if it makes my grandson happy, then I guess it’s alright. I still don’t understand why they don’t just use their hands. Seems easier to me. They got to make things complicated, these young folks. But that’s the way it is, I suppose. They got all these matches, all these teams. It is all very tiring just to think about. But I guess that’s what they like, this football thing.
