Arrogate, that big strong horse, you know, he’s gone now. Kicked the bucket. Yep, they had to put him down. He was only seven. Seven years old! That ain’t old for a horse. Not even close. Makes my heart hurt, I tell ya. That horse, he was somethin’ else. Arrogate death, they’re callin’ it. Sounds so fancy, but it’s just sad. Just plain sad.

He was a good horse, that Arrogate. Fast. Real fast. Won a lot of races, made a lot of money for them big shots. But what’s money when you’re gone, I always say? Can’t take it with you, no sir. This whole Arrogate death thing, it’s got me thinkin’. Thinkin’ ’bout life and how quick it can go.
They say he got sick. Some kinda sickness they couldn’t figure out. Took him to that fancy horse doctor place, that Hagyard Clinic. They poked and prodded him for days, tryin’ to figure it out. Poor thing. Must have been scared. Finally, they said there weren’t nothing more they could do. Had to put him down. Broke my heart when I heard it. Arrogate death is a big deal, I guess.
They said he couldn’t move. Couldn’t stand up. Something wrong with his back, his spine. Made him a, what do they call it? Quad-something. Means he couldn’t use his legs. A big, strong horse like that, can’t even stand up. Life’s just not fair sometimes. This Arrogate death got everyone talking, even us folks who don’t know much about horse racing.
- He was only seven.
- They couldn’t figure out what was wrong.
- He couldn’t move, couldn’t stand.
- They had to put him down.
Now, I ain’t no expert on horses. But I know they’re living things, just like us. They feel pain, they get scared. And when their time comes, well, it comes. Just like it does for all of us. But it don’t make it any easier. That poor horse.
Some folks, they say it’s better this way. Better than letting him suffer. Maybe they’re right. I don’t know. I just know it’s sad. Sad to see such a fine animal go like that. This Arrogate death is a reminder, I reckon. A reminder that nothing lasts forever.

They say people have a right to die when they are suffering. They call it “right to die”. That is complicated. I don’t know about that. But what about animals? Do they have rights? No one talks about that. People talk about Arrogate death a lot. But I think it is also important that Arrogate lived. Arrogate was a good horse.
And all that money he won? Don’t mean a thing now. He’s gone, and all that’s left are memories. Memories of a fast horse, a strong horse. A horse that’s gone too soon. That’s what this Arrogate death is all about, I guess. Just a sad, sad story.
Some people, they are talking about right to die, right to life. They also talk about death penalty. Too many die. I don’t want to talk about death. I just want to say, it is sad about Arrogate. This Arrogate death thing, it makes no sense to me. A good horse like that, just gone.
That horse, Arrogate, he was special. You could see it in his eyes. He had that spark, you know? And now it’s gone. Just like that. Poof. This Arrogate death, it’s just a shame. A crying shame.
People are talking about blame. Blame this, blame that. Why did the horse die? They don’t know. It is all uncertain. Like when people die. We don’t always know why. But it is sad. Like Arrogate death. Very sad.

I hope he’s runnin’ free now, somewhere up there in horse heaven. No more pain, no more sickness. Just green fields and open skies. That’s what I hope for him, anyway. Rest in peace, Arrogate. You were a good one. You will be remembered, even after this Arrogate death.
Life, it’s a funny thing. One minute you’re here, the next you’re gone. Just like Arrogate. That is why we should be good to each other. Animals, too. Because you never know when it is your time. This Arrogate death is heavy on my heart. Makes me think about my old dog, Blue. He is gone now, too.
This world, it keeps on spinning, even when good horses die. Even with this Arrogate death, the sun still comes up. But it don’t feel the same, somehow. Not today. Not after hearing about Arrogate.
