Okay, so I’ve been wanting to really get into baseball stats, like really get into them. And what better way to do that than to dive deep into some specific match-ups? I picked Yankees vs. Oakland Athletics because, well, it sounded like a good rivalry to explore.
First thing I did was just watch a bunch of their recent games. You know, just to get a feel for how they play against each other. I grabbed some popcorn, sat back, and took notes like a madman. Stuff like, who seemed to be batting well, who was struggling, which pitchers were on fire, and which ones were getting lit up.
Then, I start write data.
- Game dates, obviously.
- Final scores.
- Winning and losing pitchers.
- Key plays – you know, home runs, big strikeouts, that sort of thing.
I put all this stuff into a simple, that was kind of a mess at first, but it did the job. I could start to see some patterns, like which team tended to win at home, which batters had the upper hand against certain pitchers, and so on.
Getting a Little Fancier
I wanted was to create good records. It was a bit of a learning curve, figuring out all the different functions and formulas, but I slowly got the hang of it. Now, my table wasn’t just a list of numbers; it was doing the work, and getting what I want. I started tracking what I see.
It’s still a work in progress, honestly. There’s so much more data I could be looking at, and so many other ways I could be analyzing it. But for a first deep dive into baseball stats, I’m pretty happy with how it’s going. It’s like, I’m finally starting to understand the game on a whole new level, and that’s pretty cool.
