I gotta tell ya, this whole Alexandra Road adventure started kinda funny. Woke up last Tuesday thinking “right, new coffee shop hunt time!” but turns out my brain crossed wires and I ended up scrolling maps around Alexandra Rd instead. Decided to roll with it though – grabbed shoes, yelled “ADVENTURE TIME!” at my startled cat, and just started walking from my place near Holland Village.

Phase One: The Clueless Wandering
First hour? Pure chaos. Wandered past car workshops thinking “hang on, where ARE the food places?” Felt like a lost tourist in my own neighborhood. Almost gave up till I spotted that old-school sign pointing towards Alexandra Village Food Centre. Jackpot!
- Alexandra Village Hawker Centre: Went straight for stall with longest queue – obvious strategy right? Got char kway teow with extra cockles. Wok hei was legit insane, smoke practically followed me to the table.
- ABC Brickworks: Across the road like someone planned it. People kept bumping my elbows shouting “chope!” – felt like steel chair match but with plastic stools. Best satay since childhood. Period.
Phase Two: When Stomachs Lead The Way
Was hunting for cold beer post-spicy noodles when I literally tripped over Cafe Melba’s outdoor chairs. Looked up and boom – open space, kids playing soccer, fairy lights waking up as sun dipped. Ordered pale ale, watched toddlers chase pigeons. Realized my shirt had satay stains but zero regrets.
- Queensway Shopping Centre: Dodged seven aunties hauling shoe boxes to find that legendary Yong Tau Fu spot. Sauce so thick my spoon stood upright. Why’s no one talking about this?!
- IKEA Alexandra: Okay, hear me out – went for meatballs obviously but cinematic sunset views from their restaurant windows? Stole the show. Took blurry phone pics like proud parent.
Wrapped up near midnight sitting on some random park bench behind IKEA parking lot. Felt the food coma vibrating in my shoes. Realized half these spots I’d walked past for years without noticing. Moral of the story? Next time your coffee plans implode – just follow the smell of charred noodles. Alexandra Road gets it done.
