This Lake Merced Golf, I heard it’s a real fancy place. My neighbor’s son, he’s a caddie there, says it’s where all them rich folks go to hit that little white ball around. He says it’s pretty as a picture, that place. They got green grass everywhere, not like the patchy stuff we got in our yard.
Best Time to Play
Now, if you ain’t played this game before, you best steer clear of the mornings. That’s when all them serious players are out, and they don’t like no slowpokes holding ’em up. Best to go in the middle of the day, like around two or three o’clock, when it’s not so crowded. It’s like going to the grocery store, best go at lunchtime to avoid long lines.
But, if you wanna have the best time hitting that ball, the mornings are good. They cut the grass real nice and early, and there ain’t nobody walked on it yet, so it’s smooth. And the wind, she ain’t blowin’ hard in the mornings, which makes your shot better. And if you like quiet, early mornings are best. You can go there between 6 and 6:30, there’s nobody there. Just hear the birds sing.
If you go in the afternoon, it might be cheaper. But you gotta be quick to finish before the sun goes down. Just don’t bother those other folks who know what they’re doing, especially in the morning. They get all huffy if you’re in their way.
Lake Merced Golf Course
They say this Lake Merced Golf Club, it ain’t too far from Daly City. You know, that place with all the houses that look the same? It’s just down the road a piece. Not sure how far exactly, but not a long trip by car. They say this place is a real humdinger. It’s a big place, almost 7000 yards long. That’s a whole lot of walking, let me tell you!
This course, it ain’t straight like a ruler. It’s got all these twists and turns, like a dog’s hind leg. They call ’em doglegs, I reckon. Makes it hard to hit that little ball where you want it to go. It’s a real test, they say, even for them good players.
What’s at Lake Merced
This ain’t just a place to hit a ball around, no sir. They got all sorts of things there. They got a big golf course, 18 holes, they call it. And it’s a championship one, too. Sounds fancy, don’t it? They got these little hills and sand traps, makes it tricky to play. And they keep it real nice, like a big green carpet. That’s what they say, anyhow.

They got other stuff, too, I hear. But my neighbor’s boy, he mostly talks about the golf. Says the folks who go there, they’re real serious about their game. They got all the right clothes and these special shoes. And they carry their clubs in these big fancy bags. It’s a whole different world, that’s for sure.
This Golf Game
This golf, it’s a funny game. You hit a little ball with a stick, and you try to get it in a hole. Sounds easy, but it ain’t. You gotta hit it just right, or it goes all over the place. And you gotta walk all over to find it, too. It’s a lot of work, if you ask me. But some folks, they love it. They spend all day out there, chasing that little ball. To each their own, I reckon.
They got these little carts, too, that you can ride around in. But most folks, they walk. They say it’s good exercise. I guess it is, walking all them miles. But my old knees, they wouldn’t like it much. I’d rather sit on my porch and watch the world go by.
Well, that’s all I know about this Lake Merced Golf place. It sounds like a real fancy place, for folks who like that sort of thing. Me, I’m happy with my little garden and my chickens. But if you like hitting that little ball around, maybe you should give it a try. Just remember what I said about the mornings, and you’ll be alright.
