Okay, so I wanted to dig into something I’ve been curious about – the Black population in New Zealand. It’s not something you hear about every day, so I figured, why not do some digging myself?

Starting My Search
I started by, you know, hitting up the usual spots online. I wanted to get a basic idea of the numbers.
The Process…
It took a little while to pick the most usefull information, Then I found some official census data, the New Zealand Census. Seems legit, right?
What I Found
Well, the numbers are pretty small. We’re talking less than 0.3% of the total population, according to that 2018 census data.
I was able to gather the below key points:
- Tiny Percentage: The official numbers say less than 0.3% of New Zealand’s population identifies as being of African descent.
- Growth Since the 90s: But! It’s not like nobody’s there. The data I looked at mentioned that this number has actually been growing quite a bit since the 1990s.
The Takeaway
So, yeah, the Black population in New Zealand is small, super small, but it’s growing! It made me realize how much I don’t know about different communities, you know? Always good to learn something new and broaden your perspective. I’m glad I actually did this little research project!
