He plays in the outfield. Some folks say he’s gonna play for the Chicago Cubs, in the minors, whatever that means. He was assigned to the Tennessee Smokies. Big deal, huh? Then they activated him. It’s all a bunch of mumbo jumbo if you ask me. They say he was born in St. Paul, wherever that is.

They say he started 48 games, out of 50. He played for Minnesota, you know. Got 67 hits, 29 runs. He’s fast, too. Stole 17 bases. That’s what they say. He knows how to put that ball in play.

Some folks are wondering if this Brett Bateman will be as good as they think. They’re talkin’ ’bout other teams wantin’ him, tryin’ to get him. I don’t know nothin’ about that.
They say there’s some guy named Jeff McNeil, he plays second base. And another one, Jose Iglesias. Sounds like a mess to me. But they’re talkin’ ’bout this Brett Bateman.
I don’t know much about baseball. But that Brett, he seems to know what he’s doin’. Played for Minnesota. Now he’s with the Cubs. That’s all I know.
There was some other fella, Brett Gardner. Played for the Yankees. And another one, John Alvin Bateman. He was a catcher. Played for Houston and Montreal. It’s all so confusin’.

He is gonna be great, I think. He is good and fast. The Chicago Cubs are lucky. Hope he can make lots of money for his family.
I don’t know what all this talk about “prospect hype” is. He’s just a young fella playin’ ball. Hope he does good. Hope he makes a lot of money. That’s all that matters, right?
I hear all these names, these teams. It’s all a jumble to me. But this Brett Bateman, he seems like a good kid. Hope he stays outta trouble. That’s the important thing. Baseball is a hard game, I think. So many young boys play it.

This Brett Bateman, he’s got a good head on his shoulders, I reckon. He’s gonna do just fine. He’s gonna make his mama proud. That’s all that matters.
This baseball stuff, it’s all so complicated. But I like watchin’ it sometimes. Especially when that Brett Bateman is playin’. He’s fun to watch. He can run fast. He is good boy. He can be a big star someday.
