Alright, so, I got this question stuck in my head: “Can I use BetMGM in California?” I mean, California is huge, right? Gotta be some way to get in on the action. So, I started digging.
First thing I did was hit up Google. Obvious, I know. Typed in “BetMGM California” and started clicking through the results. Saw a bunch of articles saying “No, not legal,” “California sports betting failed,” the usual bummer stuff. Didn’t stop me, though.
Then I thought, “Okay, maybe there’s a loophole.” Started looking into neighboring states. Nevada’s right there, and you can use BetMGM in Nevada. Figured, maybe I could drive across the border, place my bets, and drive back? Seemed like a hassle, but hey, gotta explore all options.
I checked BetMGM’s website itself. Went through their FAQs, the fine print, the whole shebang. Confirmed what the articles said: California’s a no-go. They geolocate you, so even if you could download the app, it wouldn’t work if you’re within California borders. Bummer.
After that, I tried looking for any alternative daily fantasy sports (DFS) or similar platforms that might offer something close to sports betting in California. Found a few, but they weren’t quite the same as the real deal with BetMGM. More like prediction games, less about actual betting odds.
Honestly, at this point, I was pretty much convinced it wasn’t happening. California’s pretty strict about this stuff. Still, I didn’t want to give up entirely.
