Alright, so I wanted to mess around with Celtic designs again. I’ve done a few before, but they were always kinda… basic. This time I wanted to go bigger, more intricate. That’s where “Celtic 6” comes in – it’s the sixth one I’ve really put effort into.

First, I grabbed some graph paper. Yeah, old school. I find it easier to sketch out symmetrical stuff on graph paper than staring at a blank screen. I started with a rough circle, just to get the basic shape down.

Getting the Basic Shape

  • Drew a circle (it wasn’t perfect, who cares).
  • Divided it into sections – like slicing a pie. I think I went with eight sections this time.
  • Lightly sketched some basic knot shapes within each section, just to get a feel for the layout.

Then came the fun part – actually drawing the knotwork. This is where I messed up… a lot. Seriously, I erased so much my paper started to look like it had been through a war. The key, I realized, is to think of it like weaving. Over, under, over, under. It sounds simple, but it’s easy to get lost in the lines.

I kept refining the lines, making them thicker in some places, thinner in others. I wanted it to have that classic Celtic look, you know, where the lines flow into each other. It took a while, a LOT of patience, and some serious hand cramps. I was trying to make the lines smooth, but oh, boy. It was harder than it looked.

The “Over-Under” Struggle

It’s all about making sure the lines go over and under in the right sequence. I screwed up so many times. One wrong move and the whole thing looks… off. It is supposed to look all tangled up. I got it.

Finally, after hours of work, I had something I was reasonably happy with. It wasn’t perfect, but it was definitely the most complex Celtic design I’d done so far. I scanned it into my computer, just to have a digital copy. Might play around with it in a drawing program later, maybe add some color. Who knows?

So, that’s the story of “Celtic 6.” A lot of drawing, a lot of erasing, and a whole lot of “over-under” action. It’s not going to win any awards, but I learned a bunch, and that’s what matters, right?
