So, I decided I really wanted to catch the Chelsea vs Arsenal women’s game the other day. Heard it was going to be a big one, you know? Proper derby feel to it, even in the women’s league these days which is great to see.

First job, figure out where the heck it was showing. Took me a bit, flicking through guides and checking online. Seems like the TV rights for women’s games are still a bit all over the place compared to the men’s stuff. Finally found it listed on some streaming service I barely use.

Getting Set Up (or trying to)

Okay, next step. Dig out the login details for that streaming app. Took me ages. Found an old email, reset the password, the usual palaver. Then, of course, the app needed updating. Waited for that to download and install. You know how it is, just want to watch the game, but technology has other plans.

Got the app open. Found the match listing. Brilliant. Kicked off, settled down. Had some crisps ready and everything. Then the buffering started. Seriously frustrating. Picture froze, then skipped ahead. Missed a couple of early chances, I think. Fiddled with the wifi, rebooted the router, tried casting it from my phone instead. It was a whole ordeal.

  • Checked internet speed – seemed fine.
  • Restarted the streaming device.
  • Logged out and back into the app.
  • Even tried a different device.

By the time I got a semi-stable picture, about 15 minutes had gone by. The picture quality wasn’t even that great, a bit blurry. Not quite the HD experience I was hoping for.

Managed to watch most of the rest of it though. It was a decent game, pretty intense like these matches usually are. Good skill on display. But the whole setup process really took the edge off it for me. Felt like I spent half the time fighting the tech instead of enjoying the football.

It just makes you think, doesn’t it? We talk about growing the women’s game, but sometimes just trying to watch it feels like hard work. Needs to be easier, more straightforward. Anyway, that was my little adventure trying to watch Chelsea vs Arsenal women. Glad I saw some of it, but wish it hadn’t been such a faff.
