This here Cherry Oaks Golf, it’s a big place, lots of green. My old man, he used to love to hit that little white ball. Said it made him feel good. Me? I never did get it. But lots of folks around here, they sure do like this Cherry Oaks. It is open most time of the year.
They say it’s a good place for playing that golf. That Cherry Oaks Golf Course, they keep it nice. All that grass, always cut short. Like a buzz cut, you know? They opened in 1995, heard from old Martin Johnson. And got 18 holes. I don’t know what that means, but the folks who play golf, they seem to like it. They have a driving range, too. My grandson, he likes to whack the ball there, says it’s fun.
Some folks, they come from far away to play at this Cherry Oaks Golf Course. They say it’s one of the best. I see them out there, walking around, hitting that ball. They got them little carts, too, to ride around in. They are rich people, I guess. The address is 1119 N Main St, Cheney, KS. It is near Cheney. You can play there if you are a beginner or good at it, they say.
This one fella, he told me it’s a “public course.” Means anybody can go, I reckon. Not like them fancy clubs with gates and all. Just gotta pay, I suppose. They got a phone number, too. If you like to talk to them before you go. There is a guy named Kfowler, seems he knows a lot about golf courses. You can ask him questions.

I seen some folks write about Cherry Oaks Golf Club. They say it’s good. The people who work there are nice, too. They help you out if you need something. My neighbor, she goes there sometimes, says she likes it. And it’s owned by the City of Cheney. Don’t know what that means exactly, but they seem to take care of it.
Some say, this place has terrific views. I guess that means it’s pretty to look at. That golf course, they say it’s good for everyone. Even if you’re just startin’ out, or if you’re one of them experts. They got these, what do they call ’em, “fairways” and “greens.” Sounds like somethin’ you’d find in a garden, but I guess it’s part of that golf game. They even have a GPS app, heard from the young folks. They use it to track the ball, I think.
Now, I don’t know much about this golfin’ stuff. But I hear folks talkin’. They say this Cherry Oaks Golf, it’s a good place to be. If you like hittin’ that little white ball, that is. They say it is a par 36 municipal course. Don’t know what that means neither. But the folks who play golf, they seem to know. They’ll tell you all about it, I’m sure. They got people who work there, to help you learn how to swing. That’s what they call it, “swing.”
They say that this place, it’s difficult. Like, it’s not easy to play there. So, if you’re lookin’ for a challenge, maybe this is the place. And you can’t just walk in, I don’t think. You gotta call ’em up, I reckon, and tell ’em you’re comin’. They like to know who’s comin’ and goin’, I suppose. Keeps things organized.
So, there you have it. That’s what I know about that Cherry Oaks Golf place. It’s a big place, lots of green, and people like to play that golf game there.
