Getting Started
So yesterday I totally wanted to relive those epic Wimbledon moments. Just randomly thought while drinking coffee – why not dig up those classic finals and trophy celebration pictures? Figured it’d be fun to see players looking all sweaty and emotional holding that gold cup thingy.
The Search Begins
First thing I did was punch “old Wimbledon winners photos” into my search bar. Man, so many results popped up! Started clicking through tennis websites and news archives. Some pages took forever to load those huge images – had to keep hitting refresh like crazy.
Then I tried narrowing it down by years:
- 1980s stuff showed mostly wooden rackets
- 90s had way more colorful outfits
- 2000s pics had way sharper quality
Got sidetracked for like 20 minutes just staring at Bjorn Borg’s headband haha.
Sorting the Classics
Started downloading anything that looked cool into separate folders on my laptop:
Trophy Moments: Mostly guys kissing the cup or biting it weirdly? Seriously why do they all bite it?
Court Dives: Best ones showed players straight up belly-flopping on the grass after winning
Emotional Breakdowns: Found this super raw shot of some player crying into their towel
Computer started acting slow with all these giant files – had to delete some blurry duplicates. Almost gave up when my cat stepped on the keyboard and closed three tabs!
Putting It All Together
Finally decided to make this collection post. Went through each folder again picking my top 10 favorites. Cropped some weird background stuff in basic editing software. Wrote little captions like “This one’s from ’83 finals – look how tiny the shorts were!”
Double-checked all years because I mixed up Martina’s wins from ’84 and ’86 earlier. Had to redo three descriptions – felt so annoyed!
What Stuck With Me
After looking at hundreds of shots, the best ones weren’t always the trophy shots honestly. Loved that candid one where two rivals were hugging at the net, all smiles. Grass stains on their knees made it so real. Super weird to see how the player celebrations changed from stiff handshakes to jumping around like kids now.
Honestly spent way more hours on this than planned, but those dusty old images? Totally worth it. Still can’t get over how much hair some players had in the 70s!
