Okay, so, let’s talk about the Coolmore Turf Mile. I got really into it this year, and it was a wild ride from start to finish.

It all started when I saw a post online about the race meet at Keeneland. I’d heard of Keeneland, of course, it’s pretty famous. This year, the Fall Race Meet was from October 3rd to the 25th, and the Coolmore Turf Mile was one of the highlights. I think it was on October 5th. I made a note to keep an eye out for more info, ’cause the idea of watching it sounded pretty awesome.

Then, a bit later, I found out that the race was going to be shown on NBC and streamed on Peacock. Sweet! I could watch it from my couch. That made me even more pumped up. I started digging around to learn more about the race and the horses that might be running.

I stumbled upon some interesting tidbits. Like, the Keeneland turf course is known for being really tight, with a short finish. And it’s a left-handed turn, which is pretty standard for US races, but still something to keep in mind. It’s also better to be drawn low, whatever that means. I guess it has something to do with the position of the horses at the start? I’m not a horse racing expert, obviously.

The Race Is Coming

As the race day got closer, I learned about this horse, Kikkuli, that was supposed to run. Apparently, Kikkuli is related to Frankel, some famous racehorse. No pressure, right? I also saw that Mountain Bear was a favorite, but then he got scratched from some other race. The whole thing was getting more and more dramatic, just like I like it!

Watching the Race

Finally, the day of the Coolmore Turf Mile arrived. I tuned in, ready to see what all the fuss was about. And let me tell you, it didn’t disappoint! There was this one horse, Annapolis, trained by Todd Pletcher. This horse just took off in the final stretch and won the whole thing! It was so exciting to watch, especially since I’d been following all the news leading up to it.

After the race, I felt like I’d been part of something special, even though I was just watching on TV. I even found a video online of the race replay, the one with Annapolis winning. It was a $1 million race, so, you know, a pretty big deal.

  • Started following the Coolmore Turf Mile after seeing a post about Keeneland’s Fall Race Meet.
  • Found out the race would be on NBC and Peacock.
  • Learned about the Keeneland track and some of the horses.
  • Watched the race and saw Annapolis win.
  • Felt super involved and excited, even though I was just watching from home.

Honestly, the whole experience got me way more into horse racing than I ever thought I’d be. I might even try to go to Keeneland in person next year. Who knows, maybe I’ll become a regular at the track! We will see.
