So yesterday I was scrolling through my feed when this Courtney Love vs Liam Gallagher beef popped up again. Thought damn, these two just can’t stop squabbling, huh? Decided to dig into why they’re always at each other’s throats.
Where I Started
First thing I did was grab my laptop and open three different browser tabs – Twitter, Reddit music forums, and this old music news archive site. Wanted to see the whole timeline without just one side’s drama.
- Tab 1: Pulled up every public tweet they’ve ever fired at each other
- Tab 2: Went through interviews where they’d dissed each other indirectly
- Tab 3: Researched how their bands interacted back in the 90s grunge/Britpop days
The Moment It Clicked
Was drinking lukewarm coffee at 2am when I spotted the pattern. Their fights aren’t really about music. Nah, it’s deeper bullshit:
Courtney hates how Liam acts like he owns rock’n’roll royalty. Thinks he’s walking around like some untouchable god. Meanwhile Liam sees her as messy, attention-seeking, riding Kurt’s legacy. Two giant egos refusing to back down.
Found this quote from Courtney in 2010 that says it all: “He’s Manchester gutter trash pretending to be king shit”. Then Liam fired back calling her “a talentless junkie widow”. Ouch.
How It Stays Alive
What shocked me was how today’s social media keeps it going. Like last month Liam tweeted about “washed up rock chicks” and Courtney immediately posted that video of him falling offstage in 2017. They’re both master trolls who know exactly which buttons to push.
Made a messy diagram in my notebook showing:
- 1995: Oasis covers Hole → Courtney insults vocals
- 2008: Liam mocks her festival performance
- 2021: Instagram war over who “inspired” younger artists
Just two stubborn old rockers loving the attention.
The Big Realization
At 4am I finally closed all tabs. Honestly? They’re practically the same person – massive chips on their shoulders, still bitter about the 90s, using this feud to feel relevant. Neither will ever apologize because admitting defeat means losing face in rock history books. Pathetic but fascinating.
Kinda reminds me of these two uncles I have who still argue about a 30-year-old poker game. Some people just live for the drama.
