Okay, so I’ve been following Danielle Collins for a while, and this whole coaching situation has been a real rollercoaster. At first, I heard she was working with Nicolas Almagro, and people were saying he was a big reason she started climbing up the WTA rankings. That was cool and all, but then they split.

After that, it seemed like she had this tough time with endometriosis, which sounds seriously awful. I read somewhere that her coach, Jared Jacobs, was a big support during that whole thing. They were saying he helped her not just with tennis, but also with her mental health. That’s pretty awesome, a coach who cares about more than just forehands and backhands. Jacobs, what a good guy!
I started digging a bit to find out more about this Jacobs guy. Turns out, he was a decent player himself. Played Division I tennis at the University of Pennsylvania – not too shabby. Even made the US Senior National Team three times. I saw that he got his bachelor’s degree in psychology from UPenn in ’96, which explains why he’s so clued in on the mental side of things. And he’s a PTR Certified Coach, so he’s got the official coaching chops too.
But then, boom! News comes out that Ryan Harrison is joining her team as a “new energy coach.” I saw a video where she was talking about it, all smiles and saying how great it was to have him on board. So, what happened with Jacobs? I mean, Harrison is cool and all, but I was really rooting for Jacobs and Collins as a duo.
- Started with Almagro: First, I noticed Collins was working with Nicolas Almagro, and everyone thought he was helping her a lot.
- Struggles with endometriosis: Then, she went through this rough patch with her health, and that’s when Jared Jacobs came into the picture.
- Looked into Jacobs: I got curious about Jacobs and found out he was a good player and seemed to really understand the mental game.
- Harrison enters the scene: Out of nowhere, Ryan Harrison joins the team, and I’m left wondering what’s going on with Jacobs.
Did They Split, Or Is It a Team Thing?
So, here’s where I’m at. I don’t know if Collins and Jacobs actually split up, or if Harrison is just an addition to the team. Maybe Jacobs is still there, working behind the scenes? I also saw that she used to train at the Isla del Sol Country Club in St. Petersburg for like six years. Maybe she’s still connected to them somehow? And then I read somewhere that Collins might retire after this season, so maybe that’s playing a part in all this? It’s all a bit of a mess in my head right now, and I’m just trying to piece it all together. Anyone got any ideas?
