Okay, so today I messed around with this “derek wilson” thing. I’d heard some buzz about it, so I figured, why not give it a shot? I’m always up for trying new stuff, especially if it might make my workflow a little smoother.

First, I dug around to find out what exactly it even was. Turns out, it’s like, a command-line tool, or maybe a framework? I’m still not 100% sure, to be honest. The documentation was kinda all over the place. But I managed to piece together enough to get started.
Getting it Going
- I downloaded the thing. That part was pretty straightforward. They had a link on their main page.
- Then, I tried to install it. This is where things got a little hairy. I’m on a Mac, and the instructions were mostly for Linux, I think. I had to fiddle around with some terminal commands, and, you know, Google a bunch of error messages.
- Eventually, I got it installed. I think. I mean, I typed the command to check the version, and it gave me something, so that’s usually a good sign.
Actually Using It
Now came the fun part – actually trying to use this thing. I had a vague idea of what it was supposed to do, something about generating project templates, or automating some common tasks. I don’t know, it was pretty abstract.
I ran the command they suggested in the “quick start” guide. And… nothing happened. Or, at least, nothing obvious happened. No fancy graphics, no helpful messages. Just… nothing.
So, I went back to the documentation. I read through a bunch more pages, tried a few different commands, messed around with the configuration files (which were, by the way, totally confusing). Still nothing.
Giving Up (For Now)
Finally, I decided to throw in the towel. I mean, I’d spent, like, two hours on this thing, and I still had no idea what I was doing. Maybe it’s just not for me. Maybe I need to watch some tutorial videos or something. Or maybe it’s just… not very good.
I’m not saying it’s a bad tool, necessarily. I’m sure some people find it useful. But for me, at least, it was just a big waste of time. I’ll probably stick to my old ways for now. But hey, at least I tried, right?
