Okay, so I wanted to get a really good look at Devon Achane before the draft, you know, see what all the fuss was about. I’d heard the hype, but I like to do my own digging.
Getting Started
First thing I did was pull up all the basic info I could find – height, weight, college stats, all that jazz. Gotta start with the foundation, right?
Diving into the Stats
Man, the numbers jumped out right away. This guy’s fast. Like, ridiculously fast. I saw his 40-yard dash time and was like, “Whoa, okay!” Then I looked at his yards per carry and total touchdowns. Impressive stuff. It was clear he was a serious playmaker at Texas A&M.
Watching the Tape
Next, I needed to see him in action. I spent a good chunk of time watching game footage. You can’t just rely on stats, you gotta see how he moves, how he reads the field, all that.
- I focused on his running style – was he shifty? Powerful? Both?
- I watched how he handled different defenses. Did he get bottled up easily?
- I paid attention to his pass-catching ability. That’s a big deal in today’s NFL.
Breaking it Down
Here’s what I saw: He’s got that burst, no doubt. He hits the hole hard and can accelerate like crazy. He’s also got good vision, finding those cutback lanes. And he’s a legit threat out of the backfield, catching passes. I definitely wouldn’t call him the best, but he is good.
I did notice a few things. He’s not the biggest guy, so I wondered about his durability in the pros. And sometimes he’d try to bounce it outside when there wasn’t really anything there.
But I see a running back and I see him running fast.
Forming My Opinion
After all that research, watching, and note-taking, I felt like I had a pretty solid handle on Achane. He’s a dynamic player, no doubt, with the potential to be a real weapon in the NFL. I understand the concerns with his strength, I am not sure about him holding up to the everyday grind, but that speed is hard to ignore.
It was a fun deep dive! It’s always cool to really get to know a player before they hit the big stage.
