Okay, so I’ve been messing around with Diablo 4 again, like everyone else, since Season 4 dropped. The big question on my mind was: “Is D4 actually good now?” I mean, we all know the launch was… rough. I played at launch, got kinda bored, and wandered off to other games. But I kept hearing whispers of big changes, so I figured, why not dive back in?

Diving Back In
First thing I did? Rolled a brand new character. Didn’t want to carry over any baggage from my old, dusty Barbarian. I went with a Sorcerer this time, because, you know, fireballs and lightning are cool. Straight up, the leveling process felt way smoother. The early game wasn’t the slog it used to be. I actually felt powerful, even in those first few hours. Before, it felt like I was hitting enemies with a wet noodle. Now? Things exploded. Good start.
The Loot Grind
Then, I started digging into the endgame stuff. This is where Diablo 4 really needed to shine, and honestly? It’s doing a pretty decent job. I’m using the itemization, tempering, and all the other features.
- Itemization:I really feel like this is where the game has improved, now I am much more excited about seeing what drops from enemies, and excited to see those loot beams.
- Tempering:I think is a great way to add affixes, and is a lot less RNG.
- The Pit:This new endgame activity is actually pretty fun, and is where you can find the best materials.
- Helltides:Got a total makeover, and the density is awesome.
So, about the new endgame, I spent a bunch of time running Helltides. The enemy density is cranked up, and there are these cool new events and bosses popping up all over the place. It feels way more alive than before. I also did a few of those new Pit runs. Think Greater Rifts from Diablo 3, but, you know, different. They’re a good way to test your build and push for better gear. But the big thing for me are that all activities now reward you with pretty decent loot and gear.
My Verdict (For Now)
So, is Diablo 4 “good” now? I’m gonna say… yeah, it’s in a much, much better place. It’s not perfect, obviously. There are still some things I’d tweak, maybe I will do another article about that! But the core gameplay loop is solid, the loot chase is addictive, and the endgame actually feels like it has, well, an endgame. I’m actually excited to keep playing, which is something I couldn’t say a few months ago. If you dropped off early like I did, I’d say it’s definitely worth giving it another shot.
