Okay, so the other day, I was arguing with my buddy about the Golden Boot award. He was saying that World Cup goals count towards it, and I was like, “Nah, man, it’s gotta be just the league goals.” We went back and forth, and honestly, neither of us really knew for sure. So, I decided to put an end to this once and for all. I’m gonna figure this out.

First thing I did was hit up Google. I typed in “does world cup count for golden boot” and started scrolling. I saw a bunch of forum posts and articles, and it got kinda confusing. Some people said yes, some said no, and it was all a mess. I needed something clearer.
Digging Deeper
Then, I started looking at the official websites for the different leagues. For example the Premier League, La Liga and others.I wanted to check their official rules for the Golden Boot, hoping to find some clarification, but again it was all a jumble.
I kept reading and comparing information and found a website where people had made comments on the topic, and everyone was saying it includes all goals scored.
The “Aha!” Moment
After all that searching and reading, I finally got it sorted. Turns out, the Golden Boot is usually awarded based on goals scored in a specific league. So, like, the English Premier League Golden Boot is ONLY for Premier League goals. The World Cup, being a completely separate competition, wouldn’t count towards that.
My buddy was partially right, world cup goals do count, however, it is awarded based on goals scored in a specific league.
