Okay, folks, let’s dive into my little project from today – sketching out some dirt bike helmet designs.
First off, I grabbed my sketchbook, the one with the slightly coffee-stained cover. It’s my go-to for rough ideas. And, of course, I needed my trusty pencils. I’ve got a whole range, from super light to dark and smudgy.
I started by just doodling basic helmet shapes. You know, ovals, some with more of a chin guard, some a bit rounder. Just getting a feel for the overall form. Think of it like warming up before a workout, but for your hand and eyes.
Finding Inspiration
- I spent some time just free drawing. Random Shapes.
- Then, I draw some line to make something, like a real helmet.
Next up, I started adding some details. I sketched in some vents – gotta have airflow, right? – and played around with different visor shapes. Some were sharp and angular, others more curved and flowing. I even tried a few with that extended piece that goes over the mouth and nose.
After the basic shapes were down, I got into the fun part: the designs! I’m a big fan of bold, graphic stuff, so I started drawing flames. Nothing says cool like a helmet on fire (visually, of course!).
Then, I tried drawing tribal patterns. These are always tricky because you want them to look organic, I use many bold line to shape it.

I spent a good chunk of time just experimenting. It’s messy, and some of the drawings are probably going straight into the “never show anyone” pile, But, I think I get some cool helmet, I love it!
Finally,I use a darker pencil go over the lines I liked, the ones that really popped. This helped define the shapes and make the designs stand out more. It’s like giving them a final polish.
It have take me about all * that’s pretty much it! A productive afternoon of drawing, and now I’ve got a bunch of new dirt bike helmet ideas to play with.
