Okay, so I wanted to keep better track of the CBA basketball standings this season. I’m a huge fan, but sometimes it’s hard to follow all the games and know where everyone sits. So I decided to get my hands dirty and build something myself.

Easy Guide to CBA Basketball Standing: Find Your Teams Position.

First, I needed to find the data. Where could I get the live, up-to-date standings? I started searching around, and after a bit of digging, I found some websites that seemed promising, although there are different websites I can find, I picked one finally.

Then came the tricky part. I had to somehow grab that data. I’m not a super coder or anything, but I know a little bit of basic web page knowledge . So I looked at the website’s structure, checking how they displayed standings.

I realized the standing data was presented in a pretty standard HTML table. That was good news! It meant I could potentially use some simple scripting to pull the data out.

My Little Project Steps

  • Find the right data source: Scour the web for a reliable site with current CBA standings.
  • Inspect the website: Figure out how the data is structured in their HTML.
  • Extract the Data: Use the inspect tool to simply copy and paste the standings to my local excel file.
  • Check and update regularyly I have to check the standings every day after the match day, and update the excel file.

After I copied and pasted all the data, it actually worked pretty well! At least, I can have the latest information.

It’s not perfect. There is still a long way to go.

But hey, it’s a start! I have a basic system that I can check and update the CBA standings any time I want.
