Okay, so last weekend, I decided to finally check out St. Mark’s Golf Course in San Marcos. Heard a lot about it, figured it was time to see what the fuss was about.

First off, getting there was pretty straightforward. Just plugged it into the GPS and followed the directions. Parking wasn’t too bad, a decent amount of space even though it looked kinda busy. Grabbed my clubs, checked in at the pro shop – the folks there were pretty chill, nothing fancy, just got me sorted quickly.
Headed over to the first tee, took a couple of practice swings (felt a little rusty, to be honest), and then just went for it. The course itself? Pretty nice. Not gonna lie, some of the fairways were a little rough around the edges, but overall, well-maintained. The greens were decent, rolled true for the most part, though a few had some funky breaks I didn’t see coming.
I’m an average golfer, you know, try to break 90 on a good day. This course wasn’t super challenging, but it definitely kept me on my toes. A few water hazards that snagged a couple of my balls (damn you, slice!), and some strategically placed bunkers that I somehow managed to find more than once. The layout was interesting, kept things from getting boring. A good mix of long and short holes, so you had to use pretty much every club in the bag.
One thing I really liked was the scenery. San Marcos is a pretty area, and the course takes advantage of it. Lots of trees, a few decent views. Nothing spectacular, but pleasant enough to make the round more enjoyable. Saw a couple of deer wandering around, which was cool.
Pace of play wasn’t too bad, either. We had a foursome ahead of us that was a bit slow, but we didn’t get held up too much. Everyone seemed to be in good spirits, just out there to have a good time. Had a quick bite at the turn – standard golf course fare, hot dog and a soda. Hit the spot.

Finished up the round in decent time, carded a… well, let’s just say it wasn’t my best score, but I had fun. That’s what matters, right? Dropped my clubs back in the car, grabbed a cold drink, and headed home.
Would I go back? Yeah, probably. It’s a solid course, good value for the money. Not the fanciest place I’ve ever played, but definitely worth a visit if you’re in the San Marcos area and looking for a decent round of golf. Plus, the staff was friendly, and that always makes a difference.
Overall: Thumbs up. Good, solid, and reasonably priced.
