Okay, so I’ve been messing around with this “gray gunmetal” color lately. I’m not a designer or anything, just someone who likes to tweak things and see what looks cool.

First, I started by just Googling “gray gunmetal.” I wanted to get a feel for what it actually looked like. I saw a bunch of pictures of, well, guns, and also some car parts and stuff. It’s basically a dark, metallic gray, sometimes with a bit of a blueish or greenish tint.
Then I thought, “Where can I actually use this color?” I figured my text editor was a good place to start. I use this thing called Sublime Text, and it lets you customize everything.
So, I dug into the settings. It’s all just text files, which is kinda intimidating at first, but I found a color scheme file and started playing around. I looked for the parts that controlled the background color and the text color.
- I changed the background to a really dark gray, almost black.
- Then I made the text a lighter, slightly bluish-gray. That gave it that “gunmetal” feel, I think.
- I also messed with the colors for things like the line numbers and the highlighted text, trying to keep them in the same general color family.
The Result?
Honestly, it took a few tries. I kept tweaking the colors, making them lighter or darker, adding a little more blue or green, until it looked right to me. It’s all about personal preference, really.
Now, my text editor has this cool, dark, industrial vibe. It’s easier on my eyes, especially when I’m working late at night. Plus, it just looks badass.

I’m still experimenting. I might try using this color scheme in other places, like maybe on my website or even in some digital art projects. It’s a surprisingly versatile color!
