Alright, so folks keep asking me about a D3 class tier list. And you know, I always kinda chuckle. It’s one of those things, isn’t it? Everyone’s got an opinion, and most of the time, it’s based on what they just got steamrolled by or what their favorite streamer is playing.

My First Foray into This Whole “Tier” Thing
I remember when I first really dived into Diablo 3, years ago. I didn’t know jack about tiers or metas. I just picked the Barbarian because, well, smashing stuff looked fun. And it was fun! I thought I was the king of the world, whirlwindin’ through everything. Felt pretty S-tier to me, if you know what I mean. Ignorance was bliss, I guess.
Then I tried to push higher Greater Rifts. Oh boy. Suddenly, my mighty Barb felt a bit… less mighty. I’d see these Wizards or Demon Hunters just melting screens while I was still trying to group up a pack of angry goatmen. That’s when it hit me: not all roads in Sanctuary are paved the same, especially when you’re chasing those leaderboards.
The “Research” Phase – AKA Playing Way Too Much
So, I started experimenting. This wasn’t some scientific study, mind you. This was more like, “Okay, that Demon Hunter looked cool, let me try that.” I had a period where, let’s just say, I had a lot of free time. My old gig had this weird restructuring, and suddenly, my afternoons were wide open. Instead of moping, I figured, why not conquer hell a few more times? So, I rolled a character for pretty much every class.
- Wizard felt like playing a glass cannon – amazing damage, but if a skeleton coughed on me, I was dead.
- Monk was all about zipping around, which was cool, but sometimes I felt like I was just annoying enemies to death.
- Witch Doctor… well, pets are fun, until they decide to attack the one guy you don’t want them to.
Each class had its own feel, its own quirks. And yeah, some just felt smoother, or more powerful, or easier to gear up. It wasn’t about one being “bad,” but more about how quickly they could get the job done, or how much specific gear you needed to make them shine.
So, What’s My “Tier List” Then?
If you’re still waiting for me to drop some S, A, B, C list, you’re gonna be disappointed. Because here’s the thing I learned: it changes. Constantly. One patch, Barbs are gods. Next patch, they’re just okay, and suddenly Necromancers are one-shotting the universe. It’s a moving target.

And then there’s gear. Oh man, gear. You can have the “top-tier” class, but if your drops are garbage, you’re gonna have a bad time. I remember spending weeks, literal weeks, trying to get that one specific amulet for my Crusader. Without it, I felt like I was hitting demons with a wet noodle. With it? Suddenly, I was climbing rifts like crazy. So, is the class tier based on having perfect gear, or average gear?
My personal “tier list” ended up being more about what I enjoyed playing and what I actually had good items for. Sometimes, the “best” class just didn’t click with me. I’d rather play a supposedly “B-tier” class that I find super fun and have decent equipment for, than struggle with an “S-tier” meta build that feels clunky or boring.
Honestly, these days, I just tell people to play what looks cool to them. Try a few. See what sticks. The game’s about having fun, right? Sure, if you’re aiming for rank 1 on the seasonal leaderboard, then yeah, you gotta chase the meta. But for the other 99% of us? Just smash some demons and enjoy the loot explosions. That’s my two cents on the whole D3 class tier list circus.
