Okay, let me tell you about this time I headed out to Alex Hills, you know, over in Brisbane.

So, I’d heard a bit about Alexandra Hills, mostly just passing mentions, nothing specific. But one Saturday, I had absolutely nothing planned, which is rare for me, let’s be honest. I felt like getting out of my usual area, just seeing something different. I pulled up a map, kinda zoomed in on the east side of Brisbane, and Alex Hills just sort of popped out. Figured, why not? Let’s go have a look.
Didn’t really have a goal, just wanted to drive around, maybe find a park or something, grab a coffee. Got in the car, put “Alexandra Hills” into the GPS, not even a specific address. The drive itself was pretty standard Brisbane traffic for a weekend morning, not too bad, not great either. Took the usual routes heading east.
Getting into the Suburb
Once I actually got off the main highway and started driving into Alex Hills proper, things felt different. Greener, maybe? A bit quieter than where I usually hang out. Lots of brick houses, typical suburban stuff. I just kept driving, sort of aimlessly, down residential streets. I wasn’t looking for anything grand, just observing, you know?
Passed a few local shopping strips. Nothing fancy, just your everyday bakery, chemist, that sort of thing. Saw a sign for a conservation area or a park, can’t remember the exact name now. Decided to follow it. Ended up at this decent-sized park. Lots of trees, big open space. A few families were there, kids running around. Seemed like a nice local spot.
I parked the car and went for a walk. Didn’t go too deep into the bushland bit, just stuck to the main grassy areas. It was just… pleasant. Simple. Found a bench, sat down for maybe 20 minutes, just watching people go by. It wasn’t exciting, but it was calm, which was exactly what I needed that day.

After the park, I drove around a bit more. Things I noticed:
- Lots of older, established trees lining the streets.
- Seemed very family-oriented.
- Quiet, definitely felt removed from the city bustle.
Found a little cafe near one of the main roads. Grabbed a flat white – it was alright, did the job. Didn’t stay long. By then, it was early afternoon, and I felt like I’d seen enough for a first casual look. The whole point was just to go somewhere different, break the routine.
So yeah, that was my little exploration of Alex Hills. No big adventure, no major discoveries. Just drove out, walked around a park, had a coffee, and drove home. It’s a quiet, leafy suburb. If you live nearby, seems like a perfectly fine place. For me, it was just a nice, uneventful Saturday outing. Sometimes that’s all you need.
