So today I’m finally getting around to maintaining my ’08 CBR 1000RR – been hearing weird noises last few rides that got me nervous. Grabbed my toolbox and made a checklist first thing cause this beast needs proper care. Started simple: checked the tires with my pressure gauge. Front was sitting at 28 psi when manual clearly says 36! Kicked myself for being lazy about checking weekly.

Oil Change Nightmare
Drained the old oil – looked like black coffee after 3,000 miles. Removed that stupid oil filter with my wrench and ended up spraying half a quart on the garage floor cause I forgot to put a tray underneath. Wiped everything down like an idiot before sliding the new filter on nice and snug. Filled her up with 10W-40 synthetic, exactly 3.7 quarts like the book says.
Chain Disaster Area
This part always sucks. Put the bike on rear stand and spun the wheel. Chain looked drier than desert sand. Sprayed kerosene everywhere scrubbing grime off with an old toothbrush – my jeans are ruined now. Important part: wiped it bone dry before applying lube. Used the whole can cause better safe than sorry.

Quick fixes I always do:
- Checked brake pads (still thick but cleaned rotors with alcohol wipes)
- Topped off coolant reservoir till it hit MAX line
- Cleaned air filter – blew out so much dust I started sneezing
Fired her up after all that and immediately noticed the difference. Engine purring quiet now, throttle response crisp as new dollar bill. Took a quick spin around block and those weird rattles? Gone. Moral of story: don’t ignore the cheap easy stuff. Chain lube costs like $10 but saves you thousand-dollar repairs later.
