Alright, folks, let’s dive into how I finally got Marvel Rivals running on my PS5 today. Wasn’t quite as plug-and-play as I figured it’d be. Here’s the blow-by-blow:

The Download Debacle
First thing this morning, I fired up my PS5. Pumped to try Marvel Rivals after seeing all the hype. Hopped straight onto the PlayStation Store right from the console dashboard. Typed in “Marvel Rivals” quick enough. Saw the game pop up, hit that “Download” button with zero hesitation. Felt smooth so far.
Settled in, grabbed some coffee, thinking I’d be smashing bad guys as Venom in like 15 minutes. Wrong! Got comfy, peeked at the download progress… barely crawling. Seemed like the whole internet decided to grab it at once. Just sat there staring at the bar moving slower than cold molasses. Patience ain’t my strong suit.
Figuring Out The Region Lock Mess
Download finally finishes, I’m all ready. Click “Start”. Big error message slaps me in the face. Something like “Not available in your region” or “Release date restriction”. My heart sunk. Totally forgot about the whole regional release nonsense.
Panic mode. Tried restarting the PS5 – nope. Tried launching it again – same stupid error. Knew I needed to sort my region, but wasn’t gonna mess with my main account. So, here’s what I did:
- Created a brand new PSN account. Simple stuff, just followed the prompts on the PS5 itself. Needed a fresh email address.
- When setting location, I picked… let’s say… a place where I knew the game was live, like the US.
- Linked that new account to my PS5 under “Users and Accounts” in the settings.
Took a few minutes to get the details right, but felt straightforward once I knew the trick.

Finding the Game… Again
Switched users on the PS5 to my shiny new account. Headed back to the PlayStation Store app logged in as this new US-based user. Searched “Marvel Rivals” again. Boom, there it was – but now it showed the price in dollars instead of just being unavailable. That was my clue things were on track.
- Hit “Download” again under this new account.
- Prayed the internet gods wouldn’t hate me this time.
Download was way faster this go-round, thank goodness.
Launching and Logging In
Game installed. Took a deep breath. Selected the new US account on the PS5 user screen, found the Marvel Rivals tile, hit X.
The game fired up! Saw the Marvel Rivals intro stuff. Then it prompted me for a login. Needed a NetEase account – that’s the publisher. Didn’t have one ready.
Still logged into the game as my new US PSN account, I:

- Clicked the prompt to create a NetEase account directly within the game.
- Just filled out another quick form – email, password, probably agreed to some stuff without reading much (bad habit, I know!).
- Got the verification email, confirmed it on my phone while the game was waiting.
Once the NetEase account was linked, the game world finally opened up!
Victory Lap
There it was. The main menu, characters, the whole shebang. Felt like cracking a safe. Had to switch to my new US PSN account every time I wanted to play, and use the NetEase login, but hey, it worked. Jumped into a quick match as Rocket Raccoon just to test it, and everything felt smooth.
Total time from initial confusion to blasting robots? Probably an hour and a bit, mostly thanks to that slow first download and me figuring out the region account workaround. Hope this save you folks some hair-pulling!
