My Frustrating Journey with That Catalyst

So I saw everyone buzzing about the Dead Man’s Tale catalyst online, right? People claiming it’s a total game-changer, fixes the recoil, makes it smooth as butter. Sounds awesome! I love that gun’s style. Grabbed my controller fired up Destiny 2 thinking “Yeah, let’s grab this thing. How hard can it be?”

Oh boy, was I naive. Step one finding the Presage mission itself. Took ages messing around in the director.

The grind started simple enough:

  • Completed Presage on Normal first time through. Took longer than expected but alright.
  • Poked around, found nothing. Read you gotta do it again. Fine.
  • Ran Presage again. Looked hard for those hidden data crates – what a pain! Had to follow some cryptic guide step by step.

Okay, finally triggered the catalyst quest part. Here’s where the real “fun” began:

  • Had to kill stuff with DMT. Not just any stuff – specific enemies, specific places.
  • Seriously ran circles around the EDZ like a headless chicken just finding right fallen spots. Thumbs started aching.
  • Got that done. Next part? Par for the course: more grinding. Loads of playlist activities. Crucible matches Gambit runs strikes – all while forcing myself to use DMT even when a dumb shotgun would’ve been better.
  • Hours turned into days. Stared at my progress bar creeping slower than a snail.

Finally hit that magic completion. Equipped it feeling all victorious fired my shiny upgraded Dead Man’s Tale…

And? Felt… okay? Yeah the recoil is definitely less jumpy. It’s a bit better. But honestly? Was it worth those days spent jumping through hoops grinding stuff I hated? Nope. Not really. Feels like a decent upgrade locked behind a mountain of BS busywork.

My final take? Save yourself the misery unless you’re a die-hard DMT fan with nothing better to do. That grind is worse than waiting in line for my jab back when. It’s tedious pure and simple. The payoff feels meh compared to the effort. Maybe if they toned down the requirements sure but right now? Hard pass from me. Time waster.
