Okay, so I got this 2007 ZX10R, and I’ve always been curious about how fast this thing can really go. I mean, they say it’s got a limiter, but I wanted to see for myself.

I waited for a good day, found a nice, long stretch of open road, and geared up. Safety first, you know? I started easy, getting a feel for the bike. It’s a beast, that’s for sure.
I gradually opened up the throttle, and man, this thing just wants to fly. The acceleration is insane. You’re pinned back in your seat, and the world just blurs by.
- First Run: I hit around 170 mph, but I felt like there was still more to give. The bike was steady, but the wind was really pushing me around.
- Second Run: This time, I tucked in a bit more, trying to cut through the wind. I saw the speedometer climb past 180, but it stopped at 186 mph.
The speedo stop at 186 mph, but the engine, you can hear it, it’s still going. It’s like the bike is saying, “I got more, but they won’t let me show you.”
I did a couple more runs, same result. 186 mph on the dot. The engine is revving higher, you can feel it, but the speedo just won’t budge.
My Takeaway
So, yeah, that limiter is real. It’s like the government or someone said, “Okay, that’s fast enough.” I’ve heard some folks say that without the limiter, these things can hit 193 mph. Maybe, maybe not. I can’t say for sure. All I know is, 186 mph feels pretty darn fast when you’re the one on the bike.

It was a fun experiment, though. I mean, it’s not every day you get to push a machine like that to its limits. Would I do it again? Maybe. But for now, I’m happy knowing what my ZX10R can do. It’s a monster, a beautiful, speed-limited monster.
I do not recommend this kind of activity, it was not very safe and it was highly illegal, I had to do it in a very remote place.
