Alright, so, I got this 2016 Honda CBR500RR. It wasn’t in the worst shape, but it definitely needed some love. I’ve been itching to get my hands dirty and give this bike a proper once-over, so that’s exactly what I did.

First thing, I gathered all my tools. Nothing fancy, just the basics to get me started. Wrenches, screwdrivers, the usual stuff. I rolled the bike into my garage, put on some tunes, and got to work.
Initial Inspection
- Looked over the bike from top to bottom. Checked the tires, brakes, and lights. All the essential stuff.
- Noticed the chain was a bit slack and rusty. Definitely needed some attention.
- The oil looked pretty dark, so an oil change was a must.
Next, I tackled the chain. I cleaned it up with a brush and some chain cleaner, then lubed it up real good. Adjusted the tension, and it was good as new. I am not a professional, so adjusting took a while. Felt pretty good getting that sorted, though.
Moving on to the oil change, I warmed up the engine a bit, then drained the old oil. It was as dark as I thought. Replaced the oil filter, filled it up with fresh oil, and that was done. Simple enough, right?
After that, I gave the bike a good wash. Got rid of all the dirt and grime. It was already starting to look a lot better. While washing, I carefully inspected every part of the motorcycle, and I didn’t find anything wrong.
Test Ride
Once everything was back together, I took it for a spin around the block. The engine sounded smoother, and the bike felt more responsive. Success! The bike handled well, and the brakes felt solid. It has a 47bhp engine, which is enough to get up to speed. Its top speed is about 112mph. It ran through 63.62 average miles per gallon of fuel, which is quite fuel-efficient.

All in all, it was a pretty productive day. I learned a few things about the CBR500RR and felt a real sense of accomplishment. It’s not a brand-new bike, but it’s mine, and I made it run a whole lot better. It has a smooth power delivery and a comfortable riding position. Now, I’m just looking forward to putting some more miles on it. And it’s also a great bike for long-distance touring. So I’m planning to travel on this bike.
That’s my little story about tinkering with my 2016 Honda CBR500RR. Hope you enjoyed the ride-along!
